A couple of days ago we went for ecological monitoring to The Pan Point. Probably, it’s our last visitation here, because just few days left to go.
In the place where there is no cellular phones, the possibility of efficient radio links is extremely important. In the Arctowski area, we communicate on VHF marine frequencies. This is a local connectivity within several kilometers. But the terrain often shortens the distance up to 2-3 km, especially, if you use portable radios. The house on the Demay Peninsula was one of those places where radio communication was much more difficult.
Patelnia, rondel (means frying pan in polish) – what is this place? This is not a translation mistake or a linguistic error, but the official names of individual points on the map surrounding the station. Because you can go there not only for tourism but also research, when you need to perform monitoring of birds and pinnipeds every 10 days.
We have two zodiacs at the station. They are used for people and equipment transportation. Taking the advantage of Summer, when the Bay isn’t covered with ice – we try to use it quite often.
